About Counselling

Counselling enables clients to access their own inner resources and to learn new coping strategies to use in the future.

I believe that counselling is about empowerment. It's about counsellor and client working together to empower the client to create the life they want, the life they deserve.

In my experience, if the core conditions of person-centered counselling are present in the counselling relationship,i.e. Empathy, congruence, being non-judgemental and unconditional acceptance, if the client is listened to, heard and understood, a trusting, safe relationship is developed within which the desired changes can begin to take place.

The results you desire may be achieved in as little as six sessions, or alternatively, you may wish to continue working for a longer period of time. We would review our work regularly to asses this.

This definition is taken from BACP definition of Counselling:

'Counselling takes place when a counsellor sees a client in a private and confidential setting to explore difficulties the client is having, distress they may be experiencing or perhaps their dissatisfaction with life, or loss of a sense of purpose. By listening attentively and patiently the Counsellor can begin to perceive the the difficulties from the client's point of view and can help them to see things more clearly, possibly from a different perspective. Counselling is a way of enabling choice or reducing confusion. It does not involve giving advice or directing a client to take a particular course of action. Counsellors do not judge or exploit their clients in any way.'

I am experienced in helping clients with difficulties in the following areas:

  • Stress
  • Relationship issues
  • Panic Attacks
  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement
  • Redundancy
  • Depression
  • Addiction.

Sometimes there may not be a specific problem, but counselling can facilitate talking about and making sense of what life presents.

Counselling sessions are usually weekly and last for 50 minutes. I charge £50 per session for individuals for Video or Telephone sessions. These fees are negotiable if you are not in full time work.

I will endeavour to offer sessions that fit in with any work commitments with either early or late appointments

Ring me on 07956 629339 if you wish to discuss any of the above or just want to find out more about counselling.
